Our credentials

Illustration of a technician inspecting a sectional garage door track and roller

Almost every garage door company in Houston claims to be licensed, insured and trusted. Very few make it easy to check. This page exists so you can verify us before you call rather than after, and so you can compare us against whoever else quotes you.

Everything below is a plain statement of fact with the number attached where there is one. Where we do not have something, it is not listed.

Who we are

Garage Door Houston is a family-owned garage door company, trading in Houston since 2020. We work on residential and commercial doors — repair, replacement and installation — and we run commercial and residential as separate workstreams because the scheduling, hardware and code requirements are genuinely different.

We are based at 10949 S Sam Houston Pkwy W, Suite B, Houston TX 77031. It is an office and base rather than a shop you can walk into and buy a door off the shelf: doors are measured, quoted and fitted at your property, because a door cannot be judged properly off the wall. If you want to see and handle options first, you are welcome to come by, or ask for samples to be brought to the estimate.

Licensed, insured, and background-checked

General liability insuranceIn place. A certificate can be provided on request before work begins.
Technicians background-checkedYes, on every technician who attends your property.
Family ownedYes. Trading since 2020.
Warranty on our work1 year on parts and labour.

If you take one thing from this page, make it the insurance question. Ask any contractor for a certificate of insurance before they start. It costs them nothing to send and it protects you if something is damaged on your property — and a company that cannot produce one is not insured in any way that helps you.

Ratings, in public

Google4.9 from 137 reviews — readable on our Google Business Profile, not just asserted here
BBBAccredited, A+ rating
Manufacturer certificationsClopay (doors) and LiftMaster (openers)

A rating on a company's own website is worth what you paid for it, which is why the Google link sits at the bottom of every page rather than a badge we drew ourselves. Read the reviews, especially any that are less than glowing, and look at whether the company replied.

Certification is the credential people undervalue. Being a certified Clopay and LiftMaster dealer is what lets us order the full range rather than whatever a wholesaler has in stock, get parts without an indefinite wait, and register the manufacturer warranty in your name.

What we will not do

Credentials are as much about what a company refuses as what it holds. The commitments below are the ones that cost us money, which is the only kind worth writing down:

  • We will not quote a repair as a replacement because the replacement pays more.
  • We will not give you one price on the phone and a different one at the door.
  • We will not charge a premium for nights, weekends or holidays — the rate is the rate.
  • We will not bypass or disconnect a safety device to make a door close, and we will tell you if we find one that someone else bypassed.
  • We will not take a job we cannot reach on time. If you are outside where our vans actually run, we will say so and let you find someone closer.
  • We will not pretend to be older or larger than we are.

Those last two are the ones that cost us work. They are also the reason people who do call tend to get an honest answer.

How to verify any of this

You do not have to take this page's word for anything on it:

  1. Google reviews — open the profile from the link in the footer and read them, including the low ones.
  2. BBB — check the accreditation and rating directly on bbb.org.
  3. Insurance — ask for a certificate of insurance before work starts. Any insured contractor can send one.
  4. Certification — Clopay and LiftMaster both list authorised dealers; ask us for our dealer details and check them.
  5. Address — we publish it, which is more than most in this trade do. You are welcome to visit.
  6. The address on our Google Business Profile should match what is written here. If it does not, tell us, because a mismatch is a problem for you and for us.

Before you book anyone

Two pages are worth reading alongside this one. What to expect on a service call sets out exactly what a technician should do on arrival, so you can tell whether the visit was done properly. And why two quotes for the same door can differ by hundreds of dollars explains how to compare estimates that are not written the same way.

If a company will not give you a written price, will not name what it is fitting, or will not tell you the cycle rating of a spring, the credentials question is already answered.

Common questions

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes to both. We carry general liability insurance, and we are happy to provide a certificate of insurance before work starts — ask when you book and we will send it, rather than you having to chase it. Any contractor who hesitates on that request is worth being cautious about.

Are your technicians background-checked?

Yes. Our technicians are background-checked, which matters because a garage door repair means someone working inside and around your home, often while you are not standing there. If you would rather not be alone with a technician, say so when booking and it is not a problem to arrange.

What warranty do you offer?

Our work carries a 1 year warranty on parts and labour. That covers the installation side regardless of what the manufacturer allows on the parts themselves. Manufacturer warranties on openers and doors typically cover parts for longer than labour, and we will tell you what applies to the specific unit being fitted.

How long have you been in business?

We have been trading in Houston since 2020. That is deliberately stated rather than dressed up: we are not a thirty-year-old company, and we would rather tell you that than let you assume otherwise. What it means in practice is that the reputation is still being built, so a job done badly costs us more than it costs a firm with thousands of older reviews to hide behind.

What do your ratings look like, and where can I check them?

We hold a 4.9 rating across 137 Google reviews. You can read them directly on our Google Business Profile rather than taking a number on this page at face value — the link is at the bottom of every page. We are also BBB accredited with an A+ rating.

Which manufacturers are you certified with?

We are certified by Clopay for doors and LiftMaster for openers. Certification is not decoration: it is what lets us order the full range, get parts without a wait, and register the manufacturer warranty in your name rather than leaving you to do it.

Where are you based, and can I visit?

We are at 10949 S Sam Houston Pkwy W, Suite B, Houston TX 77031. That is our office and base and you are welcome to come by — it is the right place to look at door options in person. It is not a retail counter, because a garage door cannot be assessed properly off the wall, so measuring and quoting happen at your property.
