What Garage Door Work Costs in Houston
Nobody wants to call a garage door company just to find out whether the job is a $250 problem or a $2,500 problem. So here is the pricing structure, in the order people actually ask about it.
These are market-informed Houston planning ranges compiled from current local published pricing. Where we use a range, it is because the job genuinely varies — not because we are hiding the price.

The three things that actually move the price
Spring cycle rating. A spring is rated for a number of cycles — one open and close is one cycle. A standard spring and a high-cycle spring look similar and cost differently, and the difference is how many years you get before you are doing this again. This is the single most common place where two quotes diverge for what sounds like the same job, and it is covered in detail in spring replacement cost.
Whether the door is still on its tracks. A spring replacement on an intact door is a controlled job. The same spring on a door that has come off the track, bent a section and dropped a cable is a different job with more labour and more parts. This is also why we tell people to stop cycling the opener the moment a spring goes — see broken spring.
Door age and part availability. Current-model sections and hardware are stocked. A fifteen-year-old door in a discontinued colour can mean a longer lead time, a paint match, or an honest conversation about whether one section is worth replacing. We will tell you when a repair is uneconomic rather than quoting it anyway.

Repair or replace
The decision point is usually arithmetic, not preference. If the projected repair cost is a large fraction of replacement and the door has less than a few years of life left in the panels, replacing is the cheaper decision over five years — and on an older door, a repair can be followed by a second failure within a year.

Commercial work is quoted per project, because it depends on door type, count, opening sizes, operator specification and site access. Why another company quoted something very different
If you have two or three quotes and they do not resemble each other, the difference is almost always one of: a different spring cycle rating, a repair quoted as a replacement, a low headline price with parts added on site, or a lead-broker markup. Common questions
Why do you show prices instead of making me call?
Because most people are deciding whether the job is a $250 problem or a $2,500 problem before they will pick up the phone. Publishing the structure saves both sides a call. The final number still depends on your door, and we quote it in writing before any work starts.
Is the diagnostic fee separate from the repair?
We charge a service call fee to come out and diagnose, and it is credited against the repair when you proceed. If we arrive and the fix is genuinely five minutes of adjustment, we say so and charge accordingly rather than converting it into a parts sale.
Do you charge more for weekend or evening calls?
Standard hours are standard price. Genuine after-hours emergency dispatch is quoted as an after-hours call before we send anyone, so there is no surprise on the invoice. If it can safely wait until morning, we will tell you that.
Why is a high-cycle spring more expensive?
It is a different spring with a higher cycle rating — more wire, different dimensions, sometimes a different material. It costs more because it lasts substantially longer. If you plan to stay in the house, it is usually the better value; if you are selling, it is usually not worth it.
Should I replace both springs if only one broke?
Usually yes, if they were installed at the same time. Both springs have the same number of cycles on them, so the second one is typically close behind the first. Replacing one and leaving the other means paying the labour twice within a short window. We will explain the trade-off rather than insisting on it.
How do I compare two garage door quotes fairly?
Put them side by side and check four things: the spring cycle rating, whether the price includes labour and disposal, whether the operator and safety devices are included, and what the warranty actually covers and for how long. A cheaper quote is often a lower-specification job rather than a better deal.
